Steep Canyon Rangers

Went down to 5 points last night to hear my buddy Nicky (aka Nickaaaaaaa) play his fine fiddle with his band the Steep Canyon Rangers. Katie and I had a blast, and Nicky, who recently played at our wedding, as usual, steals the show! I could sense a little "check out the new guy, he ain't from around here" vibe from the other musicians in the band, each of which holds down their insturment, espically the banjo player, but come nowhere near to the level of proficency in their insturments that Nicky has. It's too bad, because if they'd get over themselves and accept Nicky as the missing piece to their quartet, it'd be a much better show.

Of course, one of the most enviable qualities Nicky possesses is his lack of a competitive edge. He simply loves music, and loves to play. That's all. He'll always get better, because he lives, sleeps and breathes his fiddle.
