SFX and other concepts

To me, SFX has always been an acronym for "sound effects." Not anymore. Now they're also the name of some intricate sound design and show control software made by Stage Research. In the past two years since I've been really designing full time, this software and others like Q-Manager, MacFOH, and Cricket have begun to replace the down-n-dirty Minidisc and CD run small theater operations of the past.

This is great in many ways. Percise and exact show control for not only sound, but anything MIDI controlled. I'm still very much on the learning curve though. Being used to inventing conventions for myself and making big things work with no money and tools from Radio Shack, I'm getting used to new concepts like lettering my fades... I know that doesn't make sense to most of you, but it's very different for me.

As far as the BTM8 is concerned, we're on our last day of rehearsals today. Just about to get started actually, I'm blogging from the theater.

With the help of Apple's Garageband software I made a few funny little announcements for the show. Check em out here:

Opening

Anchorman

Antique

Olympic

Be back with you after the BIG SHOW!
