In the past few years, one of my hobbies has been designing and building websites.

Though it's not a musical hobby, and I always think of myself first and foremost as a composer, the more I learn about website design and development, the more I find myself using my compositional skills to get the job done.

For instance, with a website you must start with a person, a presence, or and idea (inspiration.) Then, use concise language (melody), color (orchestration), and proportion (rhythm) to achieve the website (composition), that you had in mind all along.

So far, my work as a website designer has been mainly for friends and family, some of which you'll see featured below. Oh yes, I'm also the designer of the website you're surfing at the moment.

I've added this section simply becuase I'm a geek for this stuff, and if any of you web design enthusiasts out there have any tips for me, I'd love to hear from you...

My wife and I decided to hold our wedding ceremony at Union Theological Seminary for many reasons. It's where she graduated with an Master's of Divinity in 2005, and it has one of the most amazing chapels in NYC to be married in. Hollywood already knows this, you've seen it in many movies including "A Beautiful Mind" and NYPD Blue. It's also the setting for the new Julie Taymor film "Accross the Universe" coming out in 2006, starring, of all people, Bono.

I digress. Joe Hough, the president of the seminary saw an opportunity to add a podcast to Union's technological arsenel, and he asked me to do it. So I designed this website primarily to host Union's podcast, and secondarily to educate those who surfed over to it about what a podcast is...

This is a complete business website. Potential clients can get to know what programs the Center offers and sign up from here. There's also a client based updateable calendar, and contact and registration forms.

I also whipped out the javascript for this one, making dropdown menus and the like. I haven't really had the need to do that since, but my main menu is looking a bit crowded so perhaps one day you see some of that on this site as well.

A business and promotional website for my mother, now there's a way a son can give back! I kid... I'm very proud of my mother. She's a freelance luxury travel journalist, and has written for many magazines. I never know where her next article will show up.

This website is as much an online archive of her work as my website is of my work. Youc an viewmost of the articles she's written in PDF, image or text forms. All cross referenceable by publication, or publication date. There's also a personal blog that she can update with her whereabouts and personal thoughts about where she travels to.

This is a simple personal website I made for my bro-dawg, who is a businessman living in San Francisco. He didn't need anything too fancy, but still wanted a personal web presence. I set him up with a Blog, through Google's Blogger service, and even added a second one for his "For Sale" section. Added a guestbook and a contact form thanks to the good folks at Startlogic.

This website is for something I never thought I'd be a part of, and then I met my beautiful wife and I'm amazed that us folks in the secular culture don't know more about this. How to land a job as a pastor in the church.

We set up the website so that Katie could easily and instantly send and receive information from the many church committees who were trying to discern if Katie was right for them.

The one that is right for them and for us is Trinity Presbyterian In Atlanta, where we now reside, and from what I've heard, this website helped a lot.

I designed this website to operate as an easy way for folks to get information about our wedding that happend 29 May 2005 in New York City. Lemmie tell ya, planning a wedding in NYC isn't the easiest thing in the world to do, and this website was wonderful help. Katie and I put up sections for folks the folks that would be flying in to town that hadn't been here before. We put up a "stories" section, to give our community of friends a voice . Some of them didn't want to wait until the reception to tell those embarrising stories.

Now we're using it to broadcast the recordings of our wedding, and the song I wrote and sang for Katie in the ceremony itself. It's great to be able to learn HTML and all this website speak so you can help yourself in these ways. To anyone reading who may be planning a wedding, your own website might be a good way to go.
